GCCI suggested to pull out backup to Nauxi marina | Goa Information newsfragment

Panaji: The All Goa Employees Federation (AGWF) on Tuesday wrote to the Goa Chamber of Trade and Business (GCCI), urging them to pull out their backup for the proposed AHOY marina venture at Nauxi.
“Our investigation has revealed that prior to expressing your support for the marina, you have not consulted the people of Nauxi, Bambolim, Odxel, Cacra and Siridao, who are likely to suffer the direct impact of this project at Nauxi,” stated Anand Shirodkar, normal secretary of AGWF, in a letter addressed to GCCI president Shrinivas Dempo.
“Your statement ignores the EIA report of AHOY marina submitted to the Goa State Pollution Control Board, which stated that the marina will have a long-term irreversible negative impact on the fisheries of the Zuari river. Several hundred people and their families are dependent upon fishing in the Zuari river for their livelihoods and we don’t understand why GCCI desires to destroy this secure employment in a fishing economy,” he added.
