KOLKATA: Well-known minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wrote to PM Narendra Modi, wondering the Centre’s journey to forbid Nationwide Condition Undertaking (NHM) price range as a result of fitness and wellness centres weren’t painted in a definite color around the surrounding.
Pronouncing that repainting the 11,000 centres could be an “infructuous expenditure”, Banerjee informed Modi that this will likely oppose round 3 lakh destitute folk in Bengal from getting component healthcare.
The CM wrote: “l would earnestly request you to kindly intervene for immediate release of NHM funds for West Bengal and for removal of specific colour-branding conditionalities for the health and wellness centres for fund release under NHM so that poor people do not suffer from lack of quality health services.”
Banerjee discussed that beneath NHM, “Bengal has always been a frontrunner in implementation of different public health programmes. As part of the NHM scheme, our state has been performing exceedingly well for setting up health & wellness centres.” The wellness centres had been constructed within the surrounding later 2011 in keeping with the color branding of the surrounding, she stated.
“It is most unfortunate that very recently, I am informed that the Union ministry of health & family welfare has withheld fund release under the National Health Mission (NHM) to West Bengal due to non-compliance of certain colour branding guidelines for health & wellness centres, despite other conditionalities being fulfilled,” Banerjee wrote.
She stated, “Now, changing the colour brand by way of repainting would involve significant infructuous expenditure.”
“As you are aware, the government of West Bengal accords top priority to the welfare of its people with special emphasis on the poorer and marginalised section of its society. In our endeavour, we are providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to all free of cost,” Banerjee stated.
She added, “There has been a significant increase in our budgetary allocation to healthcare in the last 12 years and many important public health initiatives such as construction of superspeciality hospitals, Swasthya Sathi, Sishusathi, Matrima, Chokher Alo, etc. have been successfully launched in the last few years and a large number of people got benefited out of these.”
